The poster presentations of the students of the FTMC Laser Technology Department at the international conference-school were recognized as the best
The poster presentations of Andrius Žemaitis and Kernius Vilkevičius were recognized as the best at the 23rd international conference-school “Advanced Materials and Technologies 2021”, which took place on August 23-27, in Palanga.
PhD student Andrius Žemaitis (supervisor Dr. Mindaugas Gedvilas) presented a poster presentation at the conference-school „Ultrafast laser surface structuring for wettability control of stainless steel“. The laser technology developed by Žemaitis and co-authors to control the wettability of steel exploits the formation of laser-induced periodic surface structures. The scientific article of this study was published in the journal RSC Advances (online link https://doi.org/10.1039/D0RA05665K).
Kernius Vilkevičius, a second-year master’s student (supervisor Dr. Evaldas Stankevičius), presented the poster presentation “Gold microbumps gratings exciting hybrid lattice plasmon polaritons” at conference-school. In his presentation, he demonstrated a laser-based technique enabling the production of ultra-low period gratings generating hybrid plasmonic modes. This technology is developed by FTMC scientists. The results of this research are published in the prestigious journal Advanced Optical Materials (web link: https://doi.org/10.1002/adom.202100027, cover link https://doi.org /10.1002/adom.202170044).
In the international conference-school „Advanced Materials and Technologies 2021“ was attended a record number of scientists this year, with a total of 215 poster presentations, making it especially difficult to get among the best, therefore the prestigious awards are a huge event for young scientists.
